Koorkkencherry Sree Maheswara Temple Festival, Koorkkencherry, Thrissur District, Hindu Pilgrim festival Kerala |
Located near Koorkkencherry, 2 km from Thrissur, the presiding deity here is Lord Maheswara (Siva). This festival is the right venue to watch the glittering Kavadiyattom - dancing with decorated wood models called 'Kavadies'. Bigger the model, larger the encouragement from the crowd. Thrissur is easy approachable by Highway and railway and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, about 60 km to the south. A similar Kavadiyattom is performed on same day in Sree Subramanyaswamy Temple, a km away from Harippad. Considered to be one of the oldest temple, it is dedicated to Lord Subramanya son of Lord Siva. Spread over a hectare of land the sanctum sanctorum houses the biggest idol in the State. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, about 86 km to the north of Harippad (Alappuzha district). |
