The temple, situated near Thaliparambu, 20 kms. from Kannur, has unique ritualistic performances like offering of toddy (an alcoholic beverage) to the presiding deity, Lord Muthappan - a manifestation of Lord Siva in the guise of a hunter. You might be interested to know that apart from their thousands of gods and goddesses Indians also worship Nature in all its immense variety. Lord Muthappan's temple is an ideal example for this. Here dogs are considered sacred and one can see dogs in large numbers in and around the temple. Theyyam and Thira, ritualistic art forms of North Kerala, are performed here round the year. Situated at the northern tip of Kerala, Kannur district is 93 km south of Kozhikode (nearest airport).
