The Bali Tharpanam procedures, which began from 3 in the morning.
A heavy rush of devotees was witnessed at the famous Parasurama Temple in Thiruvallam, the Shangumugham Devi Temple, Janardhana Swamy Temple in Varkala and the Avaduthura beach in Kovalam, Trikkannapuram Sreechakram Siva temple as well as various other temples in the district.
Special arrangements were made for the devotees to offer bali at the temples. Tickets were issued from the temple in advance. A large number of priests were deployed to help the devotees to offer Bali.
Rituals
An important ritual observed by Hindus in Kerala in the month of Karkidakam, people offer ‘bali’ to the departed souls of ancestors. The ‘bali’ ritual which is done on a banana leaf and it is finally taken to the river or sea and the person who offered the bali dips in the water along with the offering and leaves it in the water.
The important places and temples to offer Vavu Bali – Thirunelli, Varkala Papanasam, Thirunavaya, Sri Sundarekhsa Temple Kannur, Thrikunnapuzha, Thiruvillavumala, Shanghumukam Trivandrum, Aranamula, Thiruvallom, Kollam Thirumulavaram, Aluva.
Important temples on the riverbanks are ideally chosen for offering Vavu Bali.
